Senior College Week–Part 2

Frozen Smore 2

Do not EVER underestimate the toll Senioritis can take on you. Where have I been for the past two months? Well, I really don’t have a legitimate excuse except for the fact that I feel like all the motivation I ever had has been completely drained from my being. After the winter holidays, it seemed like my mind just started giving up on me. I was done with applications and the true waiting game began. Second semester started despite the fact that my mind was telling me, “NO! I don’t want to keep going! Is it summer yet?” And yes. This same thought has been replaying in my mind for the past three months. The good news is, I’m almost done! I find out where I’m going to college in about a week! I’ll make sure to keep you updated, but for this post, let’s track back all the way to this past October (shame on me), when I went to visit schools in New York. Here’s Part 2 of my trip :) (Did you miss Part 1 of my trip? Click here to read all about it!) After visiting Colgate and … [Read more...]

Hash Brown Crusted Roasted Vegetable Quiche

Guess what? I’m still obsessed with One Direction. Big surprise there… In other news, it's now 2014!! I found a kind of cheesy Brad Paisley quote I thought I would share: "Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." I realize this quote applies more to the first day of the new year, not the third, but I still like it so I'm just going to ignore that fact, for now.. Some thoughts: You don’t have to start living a life you’re proud of just because it’s a new year. You can try to live the best life possible on any given day, in any given place. The choice is yours and the power is in your hands. But there is something about the New Year that screams “fresh start.” Whatever your New Year’s resolutions are, I hope you all have a healthy, happy 2014 filled with many exciting adventures. I know I have a lot to look forward to in 2014: graduating high school, starting college, moving out of California, and countless unpredictable challenges and … [Read more...]

Christmas Tree Meringue Cookies

Christmas Tree Meringues 1

I’m just going to apologize right now. I know…I have literally been missing from this blog for the past week (or two?) and I accept full responsibility for my laziness. Once winter break started I just fell into a bit of a stupor that consisted of sleeping until 5:00pm one day, and listening to One Direction the whole time… (I’m not even joking…I’m listening to them even as I write this post) So amidst my obsession with One Direction and procrastination regarding college apps, I haven’t really had the energy to create these posts. All I’ve done, really, is curl up in my bed and listen to their beautiful voices and watch their amazing documentary, “This is Us,” countless times. And I started a One Direction tumblr account. Yes. I am a mess. A hot mess… These have been my “Midnight Memories” for the past winter break… (for those of you who are One Direction fans, I hope you appreciate that little reference…someone help me I am so pathetic…) One Direction, One Direction, … [Read more...]

Pumpkin & White Bean Bisque

pumpkin and white bean bisque 1

I’M GOING TO COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanted to share my excitement with you for a really quick moment before I dive into this post. Last week, I got my first acceptance letter and I couldn’t be happier or more relieved! You see, I had a bit of a crisis last week and started freaking out, playing out a worst-case scenario that involved me getting denied by all the colleges I applied to and ending up at a city college for the rest of my life (not to say that some city colleges are not great options, but that’s just not high up in my list of hopes/choices). Alright, enough self-indulging. There are more important things to talk about here…like this Pumpkin & White-Bean Bisque. Now don’t throw a hissy fit about how it’s not fall anymore so why should we keep making pumpkin-based dishes? My answer to you: I think pumpkin is great anytime throughout the holiday season, whether it’s for a Thanksgiving meal or for a Christmas dish. I promise you won't be disappointed! This … [Read more...]

Maple Snickerdoodles

Maple Snickerdoodles 6

My best friend is obsessed with snickerdoodles. I was never much of a snickerdoodle fan, myself—I was always more of a double-chocolate-cherry cookie kind of girl. Yes, I know. I am very specific. But I must confess, this snickerdoodle cookie gives me an understanding of why my friend loves her snickerdoodles so much. They’re cakey, yet chewy and perfectly crisp on the outside. What really makes these cookies shine, is the maple. To be honest, I couldn’t really care less about the traditional snickerdoodle. What’s so special about them? They’re basically just sugar cookies taken one step further. “Oooohhh look! I rolled a sugar cookie in more sugar…and the kicker is…I added cinnamon too!” I’m not convinced. But rolling a cookie in maple syrup until it comes out of the oven piping hot and surrounded by a pool of caramel? I think we’re finally getting somewhere. Plus, maple is yet another one of those cozy holiday flavors, so why not add these delicious treats to the Christmas … [Read more...]
